Diatomaceous earth consists of the fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled microalgae.
Diatomaceous earth is used as a filtration aid, mild abrasive in products including metal polishes and toothpaste, mechanical insecticide, absorbent for liquids, matting agent for coatings
